Milwaukee Bucks news: The San Antonio Spurs have decided to bring in some reinforcements as they continue to struggle in what has been another forgettable season thus far. This comes in the form of a former Bucks player, who was part of the team’s historic 2021 title run.
Spurs Sign Former Milwaukee Bucks Champ

The Spurs announced on Monday that they have signed former Milwaukee center Mamadi Diakita to a two-way deal. The announcement was made via San Antonio’s official Twitter account:

The Spurs have been dealing with injuries to what has become a depleted frontcourt. This is after they lost Charles Bassey to a season-ending knee injury, followed by Zach Collins being ruled out for up to a month due to an ankle issue.
San Antonio waived Charles Bediako on Friday to open up a slot, which will now be occupied by Diakite.
The 6-foot-9 big man has not played this season, but given how shorthanded the Spurs currently are, some minutes could be available for Diakite in the interim.

Diakite’s Short-Lived Bucks Tenure

Diakite first joined the NBA during the 2020-21 season after the Bucks signed him to a two-way contract. During that season, the Guniea native ended up playing 14 games for Milwaukee, averaging 3.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in 10.1 minutes per contest. That was enough for him to earn a championship ring at the end of the Bucks’ historic title run.
Milwaukee waived Diakite’s contract before the start of the 2021-22 campaign. He has since had stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the New York Knicks.
