Even before P.J. Tucker made his desire to leave the Los Angeles Clippers known, the veteran was already linked to a potential reunion with the Milwaukee Bucks. The 6-foot-5 played just half a season for the Bucks a few years back, but there’s no denying that he was an integral piece of their 2021 title run.
This is exactly why Tucker appears to be a popular name not only among Bucks fans but perhaps in the front office as well.
Milwaukee Bucks Have Competition for P.J. Tucker
Milwaukee’s path to Tucker does not appear to be a straightforward one. For starters, it remains unclear what the Clippers want in exchange for a potential trade deal for the want-away veteran. The Bucks are short in tradeable assets, which could make it difficult for them to find a workable deal with LA.
Moreover, the Bucks now appear to have competition for the services of Tucker. NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reports that the Washington Wizards and the Phoenix Suns are two teams that could also be interested in the 38-year-old:
- “The Clippers’ P.J. Tucker remains a strong trade candidate, with the Wizards being mentioned as a possible landing spot, sources said. Washington would offer the opportunity of a buyout for Tucker. The Suns and Bucks are two teams considered possible homes for Tucker if he were to become a free agent, sources said,” Fischer reported.
It is worth noting, however, that the Wizards do not seem interested in integrating Tucker into their current lineup. Should they acquire him via a trade deal with the Clippers, it appears that Washington is going to buy out his contract.
This could actually work in the favor of Milwaukee in that they get to sign him as a free agent as opposed to parting ways with assets in a potential trade. It then becomes a matter of the Bucks luring Tucker into a return to Milwaukee under the premise of perhaps another title run.
