Milwaukee Bucks: Patrick Beverley Sheds Light on Beautiful Relationship With Doc Rivers

Having spent four years playing under Doc Rivers for the Los Angeles Clippers, Patrick Beverley is in a credible position to talk about him. As it stands, there are only good things from the gritty guard reserved for the Milwaukee Bucks’ current head coach.

From 2017 to 2021, Beverley had the pleasure of playing for the Clippers under Rivers’ tutelage. During those four seasons, the point guard averaged 8.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. He also boasted a 1.6 defensive box plus/minus score, a rating that made him known as a defensive ace around the league.

Just recently, the Bucks acquired Beverley from the Philadelphia 76ers by trading Cameron Payne and a 2027 second-round pick. His arrival fills the Bucks’ need to improve their defense, which has been an ongoing issue since Jrue Holiday was traded during the offseason for Damian Lillard.

Now, with Beverley on board, Milwaukee has a chance to rekindle Beverley’s magic on defense, especially with Rivers coaching him once again.

Speaking before the media, Beverley went into detail about why his working relationship with Rivers is beautiful. In an article written by Eric Nehm for The Athletic:

“When Doc got the job, I was excited for him,” Beverley told reporters. “He told me I was one of the first people who texted him when he got it. And I look at it like, a coach who’s come here, his first move, trade deadline, was to come get me, I look at it like that. So, obviously, I tip my hat to Doc. “Me and Doc, it’s like pops. I mean, I’ll tell y’all some crazy stories, man. Me and Doc have been in the trenches together for many, many years. So, you got your pops calling you back and it’s all love here.”

With around two months left in the regular season, there’s certainly enough time for the Bucks to finish strong. Fortunately, the Rivers-Beverley connection is there to make that possible for Milwaukee.
