As it stands, the Milwaukee Bucks are limited in the moves they can make to improve the roster. One such option they can consider is putting young forward MarJon Beauchamp on the market to get someone of value in return.
Beauchamp is entering his third season with the Bucks, but his progress has raised some concerns. After a promising rookie year where he played 52 games, Beauchamp’s appearances dropped to 48 last season. Although his shooting efficiency improved—boasting a 48.8% field goal percentage and 40% from beyond the arc—he has struggled to establish himself as a dependable defender, which has been a significant aspect of his scouting report.
Despite being touted as a defense-first player, Beauchamp’s performance hasn’t aligned with expectations. His net rating showed improvement, swinging from -12.5 as a rookie to -4.2, yet he continues to face challenges in securing a consistent role within the Bucks’ rotation. He started only one game last season, a decline from the eleven starts in his first year.
Looking ahead, the upcoming season is pivotal for Beauchamp. If he fails to solidify his position in the lineup, he risks jeopardizing his future in the NBA. There’s hope that his athleticism and energy can translate into a valuable off-ball role, but time is limited for him to make the necessary adjustments.
Milwaukee Bucks’ MarJon Beauchamp Identified as Potential Trade Candidate
Heading into the new NBA season, the Bucks will have to maximize their roster to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard‘s championship window open. According to an NBA analysis by Sports Illustrated’s Cody Smith, one such option is to trade Beauchamp.
“His value is about as low as it could be right now, but there’s still a chance a team could take a flyer on the former first-round pick. Scheduled to make roughly $2.7 million, Beauchamp is an affordable piece for any team to take a risk. Perhaps a young team like the San Antonio Spurs or Detroit Pistons could make sense for the wing if given a fresh start.
The odds of getting anything of value outside of a second-round pick for Beauchamp would be slim. Yet, even if that were to be the case it could free up a roster spot for the Bucks to grab another free agent or even target the buyout market later down the line this season,” Smith wrote.
To ensure his place in the league, Beauchamp must leverage his physical abilities and focus on enhancing his defensive skills. His development is crucial not just for his career, but also for the Bucks as they aim for success.
As he navigates this crucial period, the pressure is on for him to carve out a significant role in Milwaukee’s plans. If he fails, expect the Bucks’ front office to shop him sooner than later as the season progresses.
