The Milwaukee Brewers first round draft pick in the 2024 MLB Draft Braylon Payne returned to American Family Field on Monday. He took some batting practice, talked with players, and met with the media. Since his last visit he has gotten his feet wet in professional baseball and he was able to reflect upon that experience as well as his future MLB goals.

The Carolina Mudcats post-season run unfortunately ended in the Carolina League North Division Series, but outfielder Braylon Payne was able to play in both games. Payne got four games of regular season play underneath his belt beforehand in which he went 7-16 with five runs batted in, three walks, and four stolen bases. He went 1-6 in the playoffs but did draw two free passes. In six total Single-A games Payne reached base safely in each contest.

Braylon Payne mentioned a few things as key takeaways from his first taste of professional baseball. He mentioned confidence heading into the off-season as he made a bit of a name for himself (example one: he had a four hit and four stolen base game). Payne also acknowledged that he learned that there will be highs and lows as one day he might go 4-4 and the next 0-4.

Braylon Payne was drafted as one of the youngest players in this year’s draft as he was just 17 years old when the Brewers selected him. Now 18 years old his main off-season goal is to put on muscle mass. At approximately 192 lbs Payne hopes to report next spring near 205 lbs. His long term goal is to be on the fast track to Major League Baseball and crack the big leagues by 21 years old.
