There is plenty of uncertainty surrounding the Milwaukee Bucks. Some would argue that their championship window is closing fast as another failed season may see Giannis Antetokounmpo forcing his way to another team.
The Bucks are doing everything they can to make sure that Giannis will play the entirety of his career in Wisconsin, but the allure of playing with the likes of Stephen Curry might become too hard for a player who wants to win championships to ignore.
The Golden State Warriors aren’t the only team interested in acquiring Giannis’ services, but they’re the most likely candidates to pull such a ridiculous deal off. However, one team has recently put its name in the Giannis sweepstakes, and it proposes an intriguing situation for NBA fans everywhere.
The San Antonio Spurs join the chase for Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo
Athlon Sports’ Jonah Kubicek published a piece that suggested the Spurs can make an offer the Bucks can’t refuse if Giannis wants to bolt out the door at the end of the 2024-25 season.
He detailed how the trade would look like if it pushes through:
The Spurs, should they decide to go all-in and win now, could give the Bucks a draft-pick-laden package in exchange for the all-time great, who is in his prime.
In order to get Antetokounmpo away from the Bucks, the Spurs would have to part ways with a lot of their young talent. Jeremy Sochan, Keldon Johnson, and Zach Collins, as well as at least six first-round draft picks, might be enough to get a deal done, although it’s more than likely the Bucks would demand either Devin Vassell or Stephon Castle as well.
While many Bucks fans would rather choke than see Giannis leave, many NBA fans would both love and be terrified of this happening. Both players are athletic freaks who can hurt opposing defenses in different ways, and they would be a nightmare to deal with.
If the Bucks are forced into a hand they don’t want, getting such an impressive haul from the Spurs would help them jumpstart their rebuild. They can also get building blocks when they move on from Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton.
While this would be a nightmarish scenario for most Milwaukee Bucks fans, they would at least get a wealth of picks and players that can help them rebuild the team sooner rather than later.
