For as long as anyone can remember, two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has always placed his utmost trust in Thanasis in almost everything. However, the Milwaukee Bucks star got painfully real about his brother’s injury and absence from Greece’s upcoming run at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
Antetokounmpo has established himself as one of the greatest players of his generation, winning two NBA MVP awards, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and an NBA championship and Finals MVP in 2021. He has been selected to eight All-Star teams and is widely regarded as one of the best power forwards of all time.
Over the course of 11 seasons in the league, the Greek Freak has posted averages of 23.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.2 blocks per contest. Although his 28 percent shooting clip from deep isn’t anything to talk about, Antetokounmpo’s 59 percent success rate from two has allowed him to be one of the most dominant players inside the paint.
In addition to his NBA accomplishments, Antetokounmpo has also represented the Greek national team, playing for their junior and senior squads. He has been a key contributor for Greece, helping them qualify for major international tournaments and emerging as a leader on the team.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Gets Real About Brother Thanasis Missing Olympic Qualifiers Due To Injury
Giannis has always been vocal about his brothers being a big part of his professional basketball journey. However, Thanasis is set to miss Greece’s upcoming Olympic Qualifying Tournament campaign due to an injury, prompting the Bucks’ All-Star forward to get painfully honest about this development in an article posted on Basketnews.
“I will definitely miss him,” Giannis said. “We need such a player in the national team, not only because he gives energy in defense and offense, but because he is a great teammate who helps the team build chemistry and brings the players together with the coaches. He will be missed by everyone, not just me,” he opined.
Thanasis has suffered a torn Achilles and will require surgery, sidelining him indefinitely. With the Bucks’ season already over, his absence is not expected to impact their performance. However, he will miss the upcoming OQT in Greece.
With or without Thanasis, the Greek Freak will undoubtedly give his all to elevate the Greek National Team to the 2024 Paris Olympics. In any case, expect Antetokounmpo to bring the same kind of dominance he is known for in the NBA.
