On the eve of the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers beginning the 2024 Wild Card Series Brew Crew General Manager Matt Arnold made the first signing of the 2024-2025 off-season. Joining the Brewers on a minor league contract with an invite to big league camp in spring training is journeyman reliever Vinny Nittoli.
Vinny Nittoli opted out of his New York Mets contract and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that, “Vinny Nittoli opts out of his Mets’ contract and signs today with the Milwaukee Brewers, who give him an invite to their big-league training camp next spring.” Nittoli did not pitch in the big leagues with the Mets this year but he did have brief stints with the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics. He additionally spent time in the Chicago Cubs organization as well.
Who is Vinny Nittoli?
At 33 years old Vinny Nittoli has a grand total of 18.2 career innings in the big leagues. He made his MLB debut with his original drafting team in 2021 the Seattle Mariners. After that he briefly pitched for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022 and the New York Mets in 2023. This year, between the Orioles and Athletics, he pitched 12.0 innings and had a 1.50 ERA with eight strikeouts.
What is Vinny Nittoli’s pitch repertoire?
According to baseball savant Vinny Nittoli relies heavily on a cutter that averages 89 MPH but has lots of movement. He also has a big breaking sweeper and curveball along with a changeup and a sinker. The right-hander finds success by generating weak contact and by making batters chase his pitches that as mentioned have a lot of movement to them.
Vinny Nittoli won’t make an impact with the Brewers this year, but he will be one intriguing player to keep an eye on next spring. Jared Koenig was a minor league signing by Milwaukee last off-season and now is a pivotal piece in their bullpen, so that goes to show that you never know who is going to step up and thrive.
