The Milwaukee Bucks’ brutal loss against the Utah Jazz on Sunday further highlights the major issues this team continues to face. The arrival of new head coach Doc Rivers hasn’t done much in terms of alleviating their problems — at least not yet — with the former NBA champion shot-caller now holding a disappointing 1-3 record after Sunday’s defeat.
This is exactly why the Bucks are now expected to be “super aggressive” ahead of the upcoming trade deadline, with the team now being linked to Dallas Mavericks forward Grant Williams.
REPORT: Milwaukee Bucks in Talks With Mavs for Grant Williams
There’s no denying that one of the areas Milwaukee will need to improve on in the second half of the season is their defense. In this respect, it seems that they are now looking to add a more significant defensive presence in their frontcourt, which could come in the form of Williams.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Bucks have the 6-foot-6 power forward on their radar, with Bobby Portis the player who could potentially be sent to Dallas in exchange for Williams:
“The Bucks and Mavericks, league sources say, have held exploratory discussions on a trade that would swap Milwaukee’s Bobby Portis Jr. and Dallas newcomer Grant Williams. It is not yet known if the talks will become more serious,” Stein reported (h/t Trevor Theissen).
This is not the first time Williams has been linked to a move to Milwaukee, but the fact that a renowned reporter such as Stein is now indicating that trade talks have begun between the two sides could mean that this is getting serious.
Bucks Have Shortage of Assets
The main stumbling block for the Bucks in any potential trade is the fact that they do not have too many trade assets available. This is exactly why Bobby Portis could be on his way out despite being a fan-favorite among the Milwaukee faithful.
Portis has been relatively consistent off the bench for the Bucks, providing the second unit with a scoring punch. Milwaukee, however, could be looking to convert this feature into a more defensive weapon, which is why Grant now appears to be closing in on a potential move to the Bucks.
