Malik Beasley has been quite a revelation for the Milwaukee Bucks this season. The veteran sharpshooter is currently leading the league in 3-point field goal percentage by knocking down 3.0 triples per game on a 48.1 percent clip.
At this point, there’s no denying that the Bucks are very thankful that Beasley chose to sign with them in free agency instead of renewing his deal with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Malik Beasley Speaks Out on Milwaukee Bucks Decision
In a recent interview with Shams Charania of The Atheltic, Beasley opened up about his decision to choose Milwaukee over the Lakers. According to the 6-foot-4 shooting guard, everything just fell into place:
“Definitely wanted to win a championship,” he said. “That was one of my goals. I felt that I’m at a point in my career that I just want to win and do whatever I can for the team.
“With the Bucks, I felt like the dynamics of Giannis being able to space the floor for them, I felt like that was huge. I looked into all that, you know, making sure I’ll be able to get some reps and make sure I get some playing time.
“Also the veterans. I’ve been on a lot of teams. Obviously, the last one with LeBron and [Anthony Davis] the vets. The most part, I’ve been the main vet kind of in a sense on the other teams. I wanted some veterans who won a championship but also, who know the game and to help me out.”
The Pressure of the Bright Lights
Beasley joined the Lakers in the middle of last season as part of the D’Angelo Russell blockbuster deal. Life wasn’t easy for Beasley in his brief time in LA as he struggled to find the consistency he’s currently achieved with the Bucks.
According to the 27-year-old, however, the pressure of playing for the Lakers didn’t really have anything to do with his rather forgettable time in Hollywood:
“Obviously, LA is LA,” he said. “Lights always brighter. I look for those moments. I’m not running away from the pressure. I like pressure. … I just, I didn’t make the shots that I wanted to, but I don’t think it was because of the lights.”
It goes without saying that Beasley has found a much better groove in Milwaukee.
