The Milwaukee Bucks and Adrian Griffin are working on filling out the coaching staff. While they have already gotten one high-profile assistant in Terry Stotts, the team is not done trying to build a staff to support the first-year head coach. Two more assistants, Joe Prunty, and Patrick Mutombo, have been hired by the Bucks.
Milwaukee Bucks Hire Joe Prunty And Patrick Mutombo
Fans may recognize Prunty as he was with the Bucks from 2014-18. He was the interim head coach while Jason Kidd underwent hip surgery. After that season, the team hired Mike Budenholzer and Prunty went to work for the Pheonix Suns. He most recently worked under Monty Williams. Mutombo worked with Griffin in Toronto from 2016-2020. In 2020 he became the head coach of the Raptors’ G-League affiliate Raptors 905. He then went to Pheonix to be an assistant coach. Griffin gets two people he can lean on that have coached in big games.

Smart Moves By The Bucks
The one big criticism of the Griffin hire was his inexperience. However, I think that is overblown. We saw a first-year head coach Joe Mazzulla make the Eastern Conference Finals with the Celtics. Still, first-year head coaches often need a little more help. The Bucks are making sure that Griffin has plenty of people around him to help maximize the championship window this team has.
While Prunty and Mutombo will not be front and center during the 2023-24 season, their impact will be felt. The Bucks have some tough roster decisions to make but they seem to be making the right coaching staff hires.
