While Herb Kohl is more well known to Milwaukee Bucks fans as the team’s former owner, the billionaire philatrophist also served as a United States senator for 24 years. During his time in politics, Kohl crossed paths with more than a few personalities in the arena.
One of them was U.S. President Joe Biden, who himself had nothing but kinds words for the recently departed Kohl.
President Joe Biden Bids Farewell to Former Milwaukee Bucks Owner Herb Kohl
The President issued an official statement to honor the late, great Herb Kohl. Biden tried to put into words the legacy the former Bucks governor has left behind in his 88 years on this earth:
“Herb Kohl was one of the finest people I’ve served with — a kind and principled man of integrity and character, one of Wisconsin’s greatest-ever advocates, and a dear friend,” Biden said in a statement, via Alison Dirr of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
“As a businessman, Herb was living proof of the American Dream,” Biden continued. “The son of immigrants, he rose from his first job as a bag boy in his father’s market to build an iconic retail chain. As the owner of the Milwaukee Bucks, he helped to mold future world champions, and made sure the NBA team stayed put in his cherished hometown. As a Senator, he always chose work over the limelight and responsibility over ego, serving not for credit, but for the common good.”
Biden is obviously one of the most esteemed figures in the planet, so for him to have such high praise for Kohl speaks volumes of what type of man the latter was.
Kohl was a very successful businessman and his talents translated to his time as the senator from Wisconsin. However, as the POTUS points out, what makes Kolh stands out the most is the fact that he had a geniuinely huge heart:
“Time and again, he fought for farmers and food safety; for affordable health care, childcare, education, and prescription drugs; staying committed to the hard work of compromise on behalf the American people. Above all, he cared about the people he served — his employees, his customers, his constituents, and his country,” Biden said.
Our thoughts and preayers go out to Herb Kolh, his family, and his friends.
