The Miami Heat needed a big performance from All-Star big man Bam Adebayo on Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. Jimmy Butler was away from the team after an unfortunate death in the family, while Terry Rozier and Josh Richardson were both sidelined with injury.
Adebayo got the memo. He led the Heat with another massive performance, logging 16 points on 8-of-14 shooting, 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and two steals in 31 minutes of action. Thanks to Bam’s heroics, the Heat were able to destroy the Bucks, 123-97.
Heat Coach Erik Spoelstra Reacts to Bam Adebayo’s Heroics Vs. Milwaukee Bucks
After the game, Heat coach Erik Spoelstra had to emphasize how Adebayo’s effort led to a big win for Miami. It was another all-around performance for the 6-foot-9 big man, who’s on his way to his fourth All-Star appearance to represent the Heat.
“Bam was so essential for us,” Spoelstra said, via Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel “the playmaking, the relief baskets we got from his passing was critical.”
As always, Adebayo was quick to play down his massive performance against Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co.:
“It was just in the flow of the game, just reading the game,” he said.
The Heat were in action again on Wednesday against a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers side. Adebayo came up big again with a 23-point, 14-rebound double-double to guide Miami to a 109-104 win in Philly.
Team Effort
It wasn’t just Adebayo who stepped it up against the Bucks on Tuesday night, though. He got a lot of help from his teammates, which included a 24-point outburst from second-year forward Nikola Jovic. After seeing Jovic go 5-of-8 from distance, Coach Spo had to sing the young man his praises:
“Niko was very good,” Spoelstra said. “The points, that will make everybody notice, but he generates more inertia for our team in transition.”
Duncan Robinson wasn’t bad either, finishing with 23 points on six triples. However, he too had to give Jovic his flowers:
“I just thought he totally changed the game tonight with his pace,” Robinson said.
As always, the future remains bright for the Heat.
