Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has pretty much won it all throughout what has been an illustrious 10-year career. However, there is one award that he has not been able to add to his trophy cabinet through all these years.
That all changed recently when the former back-to-back MVP was named the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award winner for the month of December.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Takes Home Precious Award
The NBA recognized Giannis’ effort off the court throughout the Holiday season. This included special events in Milwaukee and the state of Wisconsin with various non-profit organizations including the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Wisconsin, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin, and homeless shelter Guest House Milwaukee.
Antetokounmpo and his family also hosted their annual Christmas event in December, which provided a special evening for 300 foster families in the city.
“I am fortunate to be in a position where I can give back to the communities that have raised me,” said Antetokounmpo, via NBA.com. “Building my legacy on the court has been fun these past 10 years, but being able to take the next step in my career and build a legacy of giving back with my family is what has been truly rewarding.”
Giannis was given the award on Saturday ahead of the Bucks’ home game against the New Orleans Pelicans. After their dominant 141-117 win over the Pelicans, Antetokounmpo spoke to the press to express just how special this award is for him:
“It means more than the other ones,” he said. “It’s special.
“I want to thank everybody that helped me organize all the events and make this happen. I want to thank Mariah, her sister, Maya. She’s not going to like that but I want to thank her. All the people in Milwaukee that came together and helped organize the whole thing and allowed the families to have a good time — I couldn’t do it without them. This award is not just me, it’s so many people that put their effort behind.”
All the individual accolades Antetokounmpo has won are nice, but as he said, this one hits differently.
Giannis’ Mom Sends Special Message
The NBA Cares award was so special that even his mom reached out to him amid his most recent recognition. Apparently, this isn’t a common occurrence in the Antetokounmpo household:
“It felt good,” he continued. “I’ve won a lot of awards but this is the only award that my mom texted me: ‘Good job, son.’ So it means more.”
This truly meant a lot to me. Thank you Mariah, Maya and all the people in Milwaukee who helped create special moments for the kids and families this past holiday 🙏🏾🎁🎄 @nbacares pic.twitter.com/OknoVtC42F

Giannis has been awarded the David Robinson trophy for this and the league will also donate $10,000 to his charity of choice, which is the Charles Antetokounmpo Family Foundation.
