After the Milwaukee Bucks fired Adrian Griffin, the franchise moved swiftly and hired Doc Rivers as the new head coach. And even with all the allegation that Giannis Antetokounmpo had something to do with that move, the team is now choosing to focus on what really matters – winning another championship.
This is evident in the way Milwaukee got past the New Orleans Pelicans in 141-117 win. In that game, the duo of Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard combined for 56 points to lead their team to a dominant victory against the Pels.
And even though Rivers is still slated to make his coaching debut against the Denver Nuggets, this victory just shows how the team’s mood has changed, as evidenced by Antetokounmpo in party mode with the Bucks in one instance.
With an impending change of culture delivered by Rivers’ hiring, it can be said that momentum is on the side of Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. But before the All-Star forward and Rivers awardee play their first game together, the former is already familiar with his new coach.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Shares Awesome Doc Rivers Story
After the game, Antetokounmpo sat down with reporters and told them a story about Doc Rivers and how he first saw the NBA coach.
According to a tweet by Gabe Stoltz:
Postgame, Giannis told us about the first ever NBA game he watched. It was on an old TV that he had to hit on the side to work. It was the Lakers vs. Celtics 2008 Finals that featured Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen, KG, Paul Pierce…and Doc Rivers.
16 years later, Doc is his coach.

In that particular series, Rivers’ iteration of the Boston Celtics had the All-Star trio of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen. That team went up against Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers, and overcame the Black Mamba to win the championship in 2008.
It’s serendipity for Antetokounmpo to watch his first NBA game with Doc Rivers as one of the central players. 16 years later, the Greek Freak will soon have the legendary coach at his side as the Bucks attempt to make a championship of their own this season.
