Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo has now played close to 20 games alongside new teammate Damian Lillard. These two have taken significant strides of late, especially considering how they struggled with chemistry early on in their partnership.
For his part, however, Giannis acknowledged that he hasn’t played with anyone of Lillard’s caliber, which has demanded a lot of adjustments from his end.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo Explains Why Damian Lillard Is ‘Different’
In a recent interview, Giannis shared his thoughts on playing alongside the seven-time All-Star point guard. Antetokounmpo admits that they are still trying to figure out the best way to make their partnership flourish:
“He’s different. He’s a different player. I’ve never played with a guy like this, and I don’t think he’s played with a guy like me,” Antetokounmpo said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “We have to figure out how to give Dame space because he’s different. He’s not a traditional player, he has way more range to shoot the ball, so we’ve got to give him way more space to operate.
“I think if the pick-and-roll happens a little higher up, now I’m getting it at the 3-point line. Now, I have more space to read my defense, operate, make the right passes, go to the free-throw line.”
There’s no arguing with Giannis here. It’s hard to compare Lillard to any other player in the NBA — both past and present — because of the unique skillset he brings to the court.
What you can say for sure, however, is that Giannis and the Bucks will do everything in their power to make sure that Dame is able to play to the best of his ability in Milwaukee. After all, that’s exactly why they brought him there in the first place.
