Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t called the Greek Freak for nothing. The Milwaukee Bucks superstar pretty much can do virtually anything he wants to inside the court. His dominance can also be defined by his ability to get close to the basket and score from there, like, you know, the great Los Angeles Lakers big man Shaquille O’Neal.
Milwaukee Bucks HC Doc Rivers Likens Giannis Antetokounmpo To Shaq
Although Shaq and Giannis are two different players, that effectiveness in getting to the paint for high-percentage shots despite all the defensive attention on them is something they both have in common, as noted by Bucks head coach Doc Rivers just before Tuesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns on the road.
I asked Doc Rivers pregame about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s dominance in the paint and if it reminds him of Shaq’s level of inevitability.

That can be further illustrated by the fact that among all Milwaukee Bucks players this season with regular ample playing time, Antetokounmpo owns the highest percentage of points scored in the paint (66.5%) — even higher than Denver Nuggets big man and fellow two-time league MVP Nikola Jokic and reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid.
