When one thinks of the strengths of the strengths of Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, it’s almost always about his ability to score and dominate defenders with his excellent blend of size, length, mobility, and athleticism. And it’s true. Antetokounmpo is a walking mismatch for opposing teams. Not many can keep up with him on a single coverage for an entire game.

But another non-scoring reason that makes the two-time league Most Valuable Player such a tough player to defend against is his ability to pass the ball, as Bucks head coach Doc Rivers talked about before Tuesday night’s game versus the Phoenix Suns on the road. (via Shane Young of Forbes Sports)
Doc Rivers has arrived. Says he’s been proud of Giannis’s passing ability and tendencies since he took over as head coach, creating open threes for his teammates.
In fact, Antetokounmpo seems to be only getting better in that area. He is already averaging a career-high 6.3 assists per game in the 2023-24 NBA regular season. In addition to that, he is leading the Milwaukee Bucks in assist rate with a 29.6 percent mark in that statistical department. The Greek Freak’s passing skills is also a major reason why the Bucks are one of the highest-scoring teams in the league.
It is up to Rivers, though, to prevent Antetokounmpo’s basketball gifts from getting wasted just like in the Suns game when they suffered a 114-106 loss despite Antetokounmpo going off for 34 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.
