Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach Doc Rivers Gets Brutally Roasted on Social Media Following Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Claim

Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers is really going through it right now. To be fair, he knew what he was getting into. Taking over a team with NBA Championship aspirations is not easy, and then going 3-7 in one’s first ten games with them is only going to make the proverbial microscope focus even closer on what is going wrong.

To be frank, Rivers has not exactly helped his own case. From criticizing his own players for being “already in Cabo” after the Bucks’ frustrating loss to the Memphis Grizzlies to him admitting he questioned the motives of ownership when they offered him the job, Rivers’ has had a bad week of publicity.

Milwaukee Bucks Head Coach Doc Rivers Claims He Tried to Tell Kawhi Leonard that Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Would Be Great

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder is averaging 31.1 points per game and leads the NBA in steals (2.2 per game). He made his second All-Star Team this year after finishing fifth in MVP voting last season and being named to the All NBA First Team.

In other words, he is a bonified star. He is certainly one of the cornerstones of the Thunder franchise right now, but he was not originally drafted by them. Rivers’ Los Angeles Clippers were the team to do that in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft.

SGA only lasted one year in Los Angeles, though, because Clippers’ star Kawhi Leonard wanted to team up with Paul George. Los Angeles shipped SGA off to Oklahoma City as part of the trade.

Recently, Rivers said he tried to talk Leonard out of teaming up with George and being patient with SGA:

“I even brought it up to Kawhi: ‘Are you sure? I think Shai’s going to be an amazing player. It may take a year or two, but I think you’re underestimating how good Shai’s going to be.'”

Needless to say, people do not believe this conversation took place.

The parodies of the story got quite wild:

Doc Rivers says he warned the Jedi about Emperor Palpatine:

“I told Anakin, ya know, something’s off about that guy. Nobody gains that much power in the Galactic Senate that fast without something shady going on. I just had a feeling he was the Sith Lord”

Doc Rivers says he warned J. Robert Oppenheimer about the creation of the
    Atomic Bomb:

“I knew that was a bad idea. I told him, ya know, if this thing falls into the wrong hands- who knows what the consequences could be? It’s just too dangerous for mankind”
