Doc Rivers knows what’s the biggest issue the Milwaukee Bucks had to deal with in his first-ever game as the team’s head coach, and it’s not their defense even though Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic seemingly had their way offensively. In fact, Rivers even praised Milwaukee’s job on the defensive end of the court. For Rivers, the real culprit in Milwaukee’s defeat was the offense.
“Anyone who told you, you couldn’t play defense lied… our half court defense was excellent,” Rivers told reporters during the postgame press conference following the Bucks’ 113-107 defeat on the road to the reigning NBA champions Monday night. “I thought tonight was an offensive loss. I didn’t think we were crisp offensively,” the new Milwaukee Bucks head coach added.

The Best is Yet to Come For Doc Rivers, Milwaukee Bucks
Rivers is still getting his feet wet as the Bucks head coach, so some issues can be expected in the early goings of his tenure in Milwaukee. Against the Nuggets, the Bucks shot just 42.9 percent from the field and got outshot from the floor, 91-84. Damian Lillard, whose defense was praised by Rivers, had 18 points but was only 5/13 from the field. Bobby Portis hurt the offense as well with his horrid 2/13 shooting. Meanwhile, Giannis Antetokounmpo shined with a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds to go with four assists.
The Bucks, who have lost two of their last three games, will look to be better on both ends of the field in their next game against a beatable Portland Trail Blazers on the road.
