And just like that, Michael Malone already has 400 wins as head coach of the Denver Nuggets. Unfortunately for the Milwaukee Bucks, Malone’s impressive milestone came at the expense of Doc Rivers’ debut as head coach for the team, as the reigning NBA champions defeated the Central Division squad in Mile High City to the tune of a 113-107 score.
After the game, Malone voiced out his thoughts on the remarkable achievement (h/t Jake Shapiro).
Malone on win 400 in Denver: “It means I’ve been here a long time. I think about Kroenkes believing in me, still believing in me… I think about how lucky I am to coach the players who have been here. Jokic, Jamal, MPJ. Guys in the past like Nelson, Beasley… great players.”
Milwaukee Bucks Fall Prey To Nuggets In Doc Rivers’ Debut
As expected, Malone and the Nuggets leaned on the prowess of the duo of Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic to overcome the Milwaukee Bucks. Murray exploded for 35 points on 13/22 shooting from the field with five assists, while Jokic had another casual triple-double of 25 points,16 rebounds, and 12 assists. As for the Bucks, Antetokounmpo paced the team with 29 points, while Brook Lopez had 19 points. Damian Lillard’s inefficient night hurt the Bucks, as he went just 5/13 from the field for 18 points, but he should continue getting plenty of touches going forward.
What’s next for the Bucks is another road game on Wednesday versus the lowly Portland Trail Blazers, with Rivers looking to finally score his first W as the new sideline boss of Milwaukee.
