The Milwaukee Bucks stole headlines on Thursday night after it was reported that they were on the brink of signing veteran swingman Danilo Gallinari. Multiple reports have confirmed that the Bucks are now finalizing a deal for the 35-year-old as a free agent signing.
At this point, it appears that it’s only a matter of time before the Bucks make an official announcement.
Milwaukee Bucks Fend Off Other Contenders for Danilo Gallinari’s Signature
Gallinari will now be joining his third team this season once he finalizes his deal with Milwaukee. He started his season with the Washington Wizards, where he made 26 appearances before he was shipped off to the Detroit Pistons in January as part of a multi-player trade deal.
Gallinari was surplus to requirements in Detroit. After failing to find another trade for the Italian national, the Pistons decided to waive his contract.
Ultimately, the Bucks were able to secure Gallinari’s services by agreeing to a new deal via free agency. As it turns out, Milwaukee had to fend off at least four other teams that were also interested in the veteran:
Gallinari seriously considered several teams – including Clippers, Cavaliers and Bulls – before choosing the Bucks where he'll have opportunity for a strong role under his old coach Doc Rivers. https://t.co/6BfxVW0ztl

The Los Angeles Clippers, the Phoenix Suns, and the Cleveland Cavaliers are all considered contenders for this year’s title, which just goes to show how teams from around the NBA still see a lot of value in Gallinari. The Bulls apparently wanted him, too.
Gallinari is not expected to be Milwaukee’s savior this season, and he won’t do much to solve the team’s issues on the defensive end. However, what the Bucks get in the former No. 6 overall pick is another legitimate threat from distance who should further help stretch the floor for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
