The Milwaukee Bucks were supposed to make it 4-0 against the New York Knicks on the season when they battled it out in a Christmas Day special on Monday at the Madison Square Garden.
Jalen Brunson and Co. had other plans, though, as the Knicks quickly avenged Saturday’s blowout loss to the Bucks via a massive 129-122 victory on Monday.
Damian Lillard Vocal on Milwaukee Bucks’ Tough Loss
Damian Lillard, who finished with 32 points on 10-of-21 from the field, four triples, one rebound, eight assists, a steal, and four turnovers in 38 minutes of action, spoke to reporters after the game to discuss the loss. The seven-time All-Star got brutally honest about his team’s performance on the day:
“Everybody on the outside is going to have something to say about what can be done, what can’t be done,” Lillard said, via Stefan Bondy of the New York Post. “But you truly never know because s**t happens.”
Lillard knows that they came into Monday’s matchup prepared. In fact, the Bucks have had the Knicks’ number over the past several games, going 3-0 against New York in their previous three meetings this season.
Simply put, the Knicks were just the better team on Christmas Day, thereby resulting in a brutal loss for the Bucks. As Dame sad, s**t just happens.
Jalen Brunson Outshined Dame
Lillard’s 32-point outburst plaed in comparison to Jalen Brunson, who dropped a game-high 38 points on 15-of-28 shooting. The Knicks star also added four rebounds, six dimes, a steal, and zero turnovers in a truly incredible performance.
Lillard could not help but commend his counterpart for a job well done:
“They’re playing through him, they’re giving him every opportunity and he’s taking full advantage of it,” Lillard said.
You just know that Dame will be out for a bit of revenge when he goes mano a mano again against Brunson on April 7 at the Fiserv Forum.
