Milwaukee Bucks talisman Giannis Antetkounmpo put the entire basketball world on notice with his stunning performance against the Washington Wizards on Monday night.
In fact, it wasn’t just the fans who were left in awe of Giannis’ heroics. Apparently, his show-stopping performance had the same impact on his own Bucks teammates.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Blown Away by Giannis Antetokounmpo
Head coach Adrian Griffin told reporters after the game that he thought Giannis was simply “unstoppable” against the Wizards. While Damian Lillard did not use the exact same words to describe his superstar teammate, it is also clear that Dame was also totally impressed by Antetokounmpo.
Lillard watched Giannis’ dominance against Washington first-hand, and the former tried to shed some light as to why the Wizards simply had no answer to Antetokounmpo on the evening:
“I think when you got a guy that big that moves that well and he’s long, fast, it’s just a tough cover. You fouled him, or he’s going to get to the rim,” Lillard said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “I think sometimes defenders don’t expect him to cover as much ground he does. I think some guys think they’re in a good position, and then he just extends and he’s right at the rim.
In case you missed it, Antetokounmpo went a near-perfect 20-of-23 from the field against the Wizards for 42 points. Lillard admits that he was left in awe by how efficient Giannis was on Monday night:
“Like the Greek Freak? He’s a freak,” Lillard continued. “It’s things that you just can’t do anything about. So 20-for-23, I think the quality of the shots that he’s getting, he’s right at the basket and there’s nothing they can do about it a lot of time, so it is impressive. Twenty out of 23 is crazy. That’s crazy.”
As Dame said, it’s no wonder that they call Giannis the Greek Freak.
