Everyone knows the Portland Trail Blazers have something special in store for Damian Lillard in his first game back since his summer move to the Milwaukee Bucks. They’re going to be showing an epic tribute video which will be followed by an extended ovation by an appreciative Portland home crowd.
What remains up in the air, however, is how Lillard will react to what is surely going to be an emotional return.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Damian Lillard Keeps it Real
Speaking ahead of Wednesday night’s highly anticipated contest, Lillard got brutally honest about what fans should expect from him once he’s welcomed back by his former home city:
“I just don’t fake nothing, man – if I feel it, I feel it,” he told Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I’m not a big a crier. Like, I’ve cried at like family member’s funerals that I was really close with and when people that I love to death are like hurt by something, or something happened.
“That’s the type of stuff that makes me really emotional, because I’m just passionate and I care about my people. And I love playing there. I love living there. I still live there. I’m tight with all those people. I have real relationship with them. It’s not about me playing on that team or nothing. They’re a part of my life and my kid’s life and stuff like that. I think that will make it more emotional for that reason.”
More than the team, it’s obviously his family, close friends, and of course, the fans in Portland that will make his homecoming even more special.
The big question now is whether or not Lillard will end up shedding a tear during his ovation. While Dame says that he’s not usually that type of person, he appears to be keeping an open mind about all this:
“I don’t fake nothing like that. If I feel a way about it, you’re going to see how I feel about it. But more times than not I’m able to take things in and just kind of take it in stride and just let it be what it is.”
