Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard has already made a public declaration of his desire to someday reunite with the Portland Trail Blazers. He will get to do that on Wednesday when the Blazers host the Bucks at the Moda Center, but for now, the eight-time All-Star will be with the opposition.
In fact, this will be Lillard’s first game back in his former stomping ground since he left Portland this past summer.
Damian Lillard Reflects on Leaving Blazers for Milwaukee Bucks
Lillard has to be riding a roller coaster of emotions right now as he heads back to Portland to face his former team. Apparently, this also includes the 33-year-old looking back at why he actually decided to leave in the first place:
“The Blazers just weren’t in a time where winning a championship was possible or what was able to be done at the time,” he said of his summer exit, via Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian. “While I’m my best self, I want to be able to play for that.”
Lillard was arguably the last significant lifer who remained in the NBA before he decided to pack up and leave. Loyalty has become a luxury in today’s NBA, and people admired Dame for choosing to remain in Portland for all those years.
That all changed in the offseason when he decided to move on to greener pastures. While he remains emotional about having to leave Portland, it is clear that Lillard holds no regrets about his decision. As he said, he wants to make the most of his prime years and he believes this is exactly what he is set out to do with the Bucks.
