Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard showcased his elite offensive skillset on Monday night as he led his squad to a 113-106 comeback win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Dame had to be at his very best with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton both out with respective injuries, and the eight-time All-Star responded with an inspired 41-point explosion to take down the mighty Clippers.
These offensive outbursts are a common occurrence for Lillard and this is exactly why the Bucks brought him in this past summer. However, it’s Dame’s defensive improvements of late that have been turning heads.
Just ask Patrick Beverley.
Milwaukee Bucks Guard Patrick Beverley Sounds Off on Damian Lillard’s Defense
Beverley shared a hilarious anecdote on a recent episode of his podcast about Dame and the latter’s ability to lock it down on the defensive end. Apparently, Lillard initially thought Beverley was asking him about firearms:
“I go up to Dame today, like, ‘Hey, you got straps?'” Beverley said. “He (responded), ‘Guns?’ (I said), ‘Hell nah, defense.’ He goes, ‘Oh, yeah. I play defense when I have to. But I been in situations where I ain’t have to.”
Beverley is a three-time All-Defense guard so he definitely knows a thing or two about playing defense. This is exactly why what he has to say about Lillard’s defense holds a lot of stock:
“He’s been really good defensively,” Beverley continued. “… It’s a will. Defense is all a will. He wants to win. He wants to win a championship. He wants to be really good, so… Nah, we need it all.”

As Beverley said, it’s not just Dame’s offensive prowess that the Bucks demand from him. He did all that with the Portland Trail Blazers for many years, and yet it did not result in a championship. Milwaukee has other plans.
