When the Brooklyn Nets hosted the Milwaukee Bucks on December 27, the Nets decided to sit no less than six players in what, unsurprisingly, turned out to be a blowout victory in favor of the Bucks, 144-122.
The NBA did not like that move from the Nets and they have now acted retroactively by slapping Brooklyn with a hefty $100,000 fine for their antics.
Nets Slapped With $100,000 Fine by NBA
The league made an official announcement on their stern decision on Thursday via the NBA Communications account on Twitter:

Ben Simmons and Lonnie Walker IV have been dealing with respective long-term injuries and their absence against the Bucks appears to have been deemed “valid” by the NBA. However, the fact that Brooklyn also decided to have Spencer Dinwiddie, Nic Claxton, Cam Johnson, and Dorian Finney-Smith sit out on December 27 clearly did not sit well with the league office.
Mikal Bridges Slams Nets for Benching Vs. Milwaukee Bucks
The lone star for the Nets that evening was Mikal Bridges, who incidentally, just logged 12 minutes in the blowout. After the game, Brooklyn head coach Jacque Vaughn admitted that Bridges only took the court to keep his playing streak alive, which at that time, extended to 423 straight games.
Bridges himself did not like that decision from the team, and he did not hold back in calling out the Nets for the same:
“The streak is, I guess, for everyone else to talk about. But I don’t just get in there for the streak,” Bridges said, via Zach Braziller of the New York Post. “I get in there to play the game and because I want to go out there and win. I don’t go in there to just sub in, get the streak and whatever. I just want to play.”
“… I guess for their purposes is why. But I’m healthy, so I [don’t] see why I wouldn’t play.”
This time around, it’s not just their own player who’s called out the team’s questionable decisions. The NBA has acted as well, and it comes in the form of a hefty fine for the organization.
