The last time the Milwaukee Bucks played against the Indiana Pacers, Bobby Portis was unable to finish the game. This was after the veteran big man was ejected in the fourth quarter of the tightly-contested affair following his second technical foul.
Portis’ ejection was just one of multiple incidents during the Bucks-Pacers game last December 14, which also included a near-brawl in the locker room after the final buzzer over the game ball.
With these two teams facing off again on Monday night, there is sure to be some fireworks between these two Central Division rivals.
Bobby Portis Speaks out on Milwaukee Bucks’ Rivalry Vs. Pacers
Speaking to Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel after Sunday’s practice, Portis was asked to comment on the bad blood between the Bucks and the Pacers. The 6-foot-10 big man got brutally honest in his response as he played down the rivalry narrative:
“Nah, it’s a new year man — it’s 2024,” Portis said with a smile and a laugh.
“For us it’s all about just about getting better. All about us taking that next step on a daily basis and worry about ourselves. Obviously getting into the season, obviously they’re an in-division opponent and we obviously play them four times a year. This year it’s gonna be five obviously with the In-Season Tournament in place and things like that. But it’s just another game for us to go out there and get better, man, not worry about what happened weeks ago. We just worry about just trying to get a dub.”
Obviously, the most important thing for the Bucks here is to get the win. This is the top priority for Portis and the rest of the squad, and you can be sure that they will do everything they can on Monday night to make sure that this is going to be the case.
Portis is no fool, though. As soon as the Pacers try anything funny during the game, there’s no doubt that Portis will be the first to say (and act) that the Bucks won’t be having any of that nonsense.
