Bobby Portis has once again been an impact player for the Milwaukee Bucks to start the season. He’s been a consistent force off the bench, and there’s no denying that he has been integral in the team’s three wins thus far.
There is one thing Portis isn’t too delighted with in his early-season play, though — and it’s something that his own mother has called him out for multiple times already.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Bobby Portis Criticized by Own Mom
In a recent interview, the veteran big man revealed that his mom has been on his case regarding his inefficiency from the charity stripe. As it turns out, Portis’ mother is an even bigger critic than himself:
“I gotta make some, too,” Portis said of his free throws. “My mom definitely been texting me after every game about my free throws. I think I shot like 0-for-4 in my first game. She was on my head. And then I came back against Toronto and I got like nine attempts, which is a lot for me. I got nine (attempts), and I only made six. She was on my head again, as soon as the game was over I knew when I got to my phone, my mom was gonna be bummed about the free throws.
“Shout out to my mom. It’s always good to have a hard critic like that.”
In five games played this season, Portis has averaged 10.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1.2 steals in 18.8 minutes per contest. Those are some pretty impressive numbers considering how he’s playing significantly less than how much he did last term when he averaged 26.0 minutes per game.
Portis, however, is shooting a career-low 58.8 percent from the charity stripe on a career-best 3.4 attempts per game. The sample size remains small, though, and as he said, his nine attempts from the line against the Toronto Raptors last week pulled up his count significantly.
Either way, you can be sure that Portis’ mom will keep on banging on the same drum until his son gets his free throws right.
