Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. knew he had to step on Monday night against the Los Angeles Clippers with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton out due to injury. Portis Jr. scored 28 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and recorded two assists in a 113-106 win over the Clippers.
He stepped up big time off the bench for the Bucks. He may be one of the favorites to win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. Portis Jr. was one of the reasons why he helped Milwaukee rally from 15 points down against the Clippers.
It helped when Damian Lillard scored 41 points for Milwaukee. This is not the first time this season that Portis Jr. has stepped up in a big moment for the team. Portis Jr. told Jonas Panerio of Sports Illustrated after the game by saying:
“Guys in that locker room have been working. Put the time in. Especially when guys go out, it’s like next-man-up mentality. Especially in the NBA, guys aren’t going to play 82 games. So, at some point, your opportunity is going to come. The biggest thing about that is just staying ready and being ready for the moment. I think guys came in and made a great impact.”

The fact he has scored 20 or more points in a game nine times this season is quite impressive for a role player. Those are the kind of players that win NBA Championships. Portis Jr. helped the Bucks win one a couple of seasons ago. They can’t afford to lose their glue guy down the stretch.
