We’ve long said that the role players will need to step up for the Milwaukee Bucks if they want to reach their lofty objectives this season. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard will do their respective things, but at the same time, the supporting cast will also need to make their presence felt on a nightly basis.
Bobby Portis knows this all too well, and he did just that on Monday night in Milwaukee’s 122-114 victory over the Miami Heat.
Bobby Portis Comes Up Big for Milwaukee Bucks

Portis took on his usual role off the bench on Sunday, and he played it to perfection. The veteran needed just 19 minutes of action to make a significant impact on the game. Portis finished with 18 points on a highly efficient 8-of-11 from the field, eight rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks.
As always, the 6-foot-10 big man came in to perform impact plays for Milwaukee as they poured it on all over a shorthanded Miami side:

Bobby Portis is still the heart & soul of Milwaukee.
14 points, four rebounds, and that BP endless energy in the first 10 minutes off the bench tonight. pic.twitter.com/4FgZFUcwpg

Talk about energy, right?
Adrian Griffin Lauds Bobby Portis’ Performance

After the game, Bucks head coach Adrian Griffin had nothing but good things to say about Portis and how the vet impacted Monday’s win. Coach Griff needed just four words to perfectly describe what Portis brings to the table for the squad:
“He’s the people’s champ,” Griffin said, via Gabe Stolts of Brew Hoops.
Indeed he is. Portis is no star, but there are few other players on the squad who can get the fans going as much as this man does whenever he’s on the floor.
