Earlier this month, the Milwaukee Bucks got themselves into a real dogfight against Central Division rivals Chicago Bulls. The Bucks ultimately secured a convincing 113-97 victory, but it did not come without incident.
Things got pretty heated throughout the game, which included an ejection for Bulls star Nikola Vucevic after a nasty foul on A.J. Green. Both Patrick Beverley and Bobby Portis were on the floor during that sequence, and you just knew that they had to react after seeing that type of violence from Vucevic.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Patrick Beverley Speaks Out on Nikola Vucevic Incident
Naturally, Beverley was one of the first players that came to Green’s defense. He confronted Vucevic immediately, who also happens to be one of his former teammates during Beverley’s time in Chicago. As it turns out, however, the Bulls big man had a bit of bad blood brewing with Pat Bev:
“(He) said something like it was built up, too,” Beverley said. “The look in his face was like, he always wanted to… it was a curse word. … The way he looked was like, ‘Oh, you had that built up.’ So now I’m thinking in my head, that was from that Detroit game in Chicago. He elbowed me at practice, talking about some, ‘Yea, it’s a big boy’s league.'”
Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed during the altercation and it did not escalate. Vucevic got himself thrown out of the game after being assessed with a Flagrant Foul 2.
The Bobby Portis Factor
As you may have noticed, Portis was right behind Beverley as the latter had words with Vucevic. Pat Bev certainly appreciated the gesture. In fact, the feisty veteran guard is extremely proud now that he knows Portis has his back:
“Watch out Vuc, I got Big Bobby behind me too now. Yea, I can pop my s**t now,” Beverley said. “My boy Bobby don’t play.”
