Around a week ago, the Milwaukee Bucks caused shockwaves to reverberate throughout the NBA when Adrian Griffin was let go. Several personalities, including the Denver Nuggets’ Michael Malone, shared their perspective on how the franchise handled the said situation.
Even before the current season began, the Bucks’ front office thought key players, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton, would walk away from the team. This paved the way for Griffin’s hiring since he was seen as a good choice for a potential rebuild in Milwaukee.
That changed when the Bucks went all in on Damian Lillard as their starting point guard. However, Griffin’s hiring was final, and it meant that the new All-Star duo of Antetokounmpo and Lillard would have to play under the rookie coach.
Although the Bucks cruised to a winning record at the start of 2024, the front office still chose to let Griffin go. And while there have been allegations of Antetokounmpo’s involvement in the matter, Milwaukee has moved on by hiring Doc Rivers as the new head coach.
Denver Nuggets’ Michael Malone Drops Critical Take on How Milwaukee Bucks Fired Adrian Griffin
After the Denver Nuggets home victory against Milwaukee, Michael Malone met with reporters to answer their questions, particularly about what Rivers can do for the Bucks. But before he answered that query, Malone shared his thoughts about Griffin’s firing.
In a tweet posted by Vinny Benedetto on X:
Michael Malone fields a question on what Doc Rivers brings to the Bucks by first offering sympathy to Adrian Griffin.
“If you’re looking for security, don’t become a coach,” Malone said.
“Tough to see a guy who’s in second or third place in the East get let go so early.”— Vinny Benedetto (@VBenedetto) January 30, 2024
Malone isn’t alone in thinking Griffin received the short end of the stick from the Bucks. Personalities like Jamal Crawford, Frank Vogel, and Gilbert Arenas have given their opinions on the matter, and they somehow echo the Nuggets head coach’s take.
In any case, Rivers is now the Bucks’ head coach, and the franchise will focus on winning with him in the driver’s seat. Only time will tell if this decision will prove to be beneficial for Milwaukee or not.
