Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras had a very good 2023 MLB season. According to Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report, he thought that Contreras was the third-best catcher in the MLB this season, only behind Sean Murphy of the Atlanta Braves and Adley Rutschman of the Baltimore Orioles.
Reuter wrote about Williams Contreras being the third-best catcher in the MLB this past season on Bleacher Report:
“After platooning with Travis d’Arnaud on the Atlanta Braves during the 2022 season, William Contreras was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason in the same three-team blockbuster deal that sent Sean Murphy from Oakland to Atlanta. The 25-year-old was an offensive standout early in his career, and he posted similarly impressive numbers at the plate this year while taking a huge step forward defensively. He was a Gold Glove finalist and ranked fourth in overall defensive value while anchoring a terrific Milwaukee pitching staff.”
Contreras is only 25 years old and will have a bright future ahead of him in the MLB. Throughout this season, he had a .289 batting average with 17 home runs and 78 RBIs, along with six stolen bases. William Contreras will be the starting catcher for Milwaukee in 2024 and beyond, but they also have one of the best catching prospects in all of baseball waiting in catcher Jeferson Quero.
Milwaukee Brewers Catcher William Contreras Has a Bright Future Ahead of Him
This was Contreras’s first season with the Brewers organization, and this is the second consecutive season that he has hit 15 or more home runs. William Contreras is most likely going to do that consistently over the next several seasons.
This year was also his career high in RBIs with 78, and he has improved in that category every single season he has been in the big leagues. William Contreras had 45 RBIs in 2022 with the Atlanta Braves. He is one of the key hitters in the Milwaukee Brewers lineup, and they need more of those players. Contreras and Adley Rutschman of the Baltimore Orioles will also battle it out for best catcher in the big leagues for the next few years.
