Milwaukee Brewers: Brandon Woodruff Officially Ruled Out For Entire 2024 Season (BREAKING)

Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff has been a pivotal piece of the teams starting rotation over the past several seasons.  He holds a handful of franchise records and has pitched in big regular season and postseason games.  Unfortunately he underwent shoulder surgery this off-season and now officially has been ruled out for the entire 2024 season.

Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported the breaking news of Brandon Woodruff being ruled out for the entire 2024 season.  There had been some optimism that he would return mid-season but that idea has now been shut down.

Brandon Woodruff confirmed yesterday he isn’t going to return in 2024. But he’s back to playing catch now and expects to be the same version of Big Woo in 2025.

On expectations and returning to Milwaukee:

The Milwaukee Brewers and Brandon Woodruff planned for this scenario by signing a two year contract this off-season.

This spring the Brewers and Brandon Woodruff agreed to a two year contract with a mutual option for a third season.  Despite being unavailable for the 2024 campaign he will earn $2.5 million.  When he returns to a big league mound in 2025 he will be earning $5.0 million with the Brewers and there then is a $20 million mutual option for the 2026 season.

Does this change the Brewers immediate thoughts on their starting rotation?

Entering the 2024 season the Brewers rotation is thin, but this news regarding Woodruff shouldn’t change their start of the season plans because Woodruff was never in the picture to begin with.  This news may impact what they do later on in the season.  Instead of potentially getting a mid to late season boost of a fresh and healthy Woodruff they will have to look elsewhere if they want to upgrade their rotation and make a push for the playoffs.
