The future of the Milwaukee Brewers is expected to sign a record-breaking contract extension on Thursday. The team and Jackson Chourio are expected to complete an eight-year $80 million deal (Chourio’s deal is the richest contract by a player who has not reached the Majors in MLB History.)
This type of deal is rare for the Brewers, as they don’t dole massive contract extensions unless it’s for a player they are high on. This also speaks to the commitment Milwaukee has to the future of their team. Outside of Chourio, Milwaukee has Joey Wiemer, Garrett Mitchell, Brice Turang, and Sal Frelick, who will make solid contributions to the team. Adding Chourio to the mix, the Milwaukee Brewers will be a team to be reckoned with for the next 3-5 years.
Fans react to the Milwaukee Brewers signing Jackson Chourio to a record-breaking extension.
The Brewers, known for being a frugal organization, finally made a move on Thursday that made their rabid fans happy.
Signing Jackson Chourio to an extension signals a new beginning for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Oh my god. The end days are finally here. The Brewers are spending money on a position player, and a lot of money.

I totally understand this is life changing money. But two team options? Why should Chourio sign his life away? Free agency at thirty? It would be tempting to roll the dice or ask for much more.

Rare Brewers offseason W?!?!

I love locking players up early. It’s great for players (security early on and guaranteeing yourself set for life no matter what) and great for the team (it’s risky as we’ve seen, but it also can provide bargains if that player hits their potential). Congrats to both sides.

Holy smokes.

Some fans were concerned that this could be considered a risk for the Brewers, but there are more upsides to this deal than downsides.
Last year, Chourio hit .282 with 22 home runs 91 RBIs, and 44 stolen bases. It’s been a long time since Milwaukee has had a five-tool player like this and well over a decade since they had the luxury of having an elite prospect on their team.
The downside to making this deal is that someone in the outfield will be the odd man out. Milwaukee started Garrett Mitchell and Joey Wiemer at CF last season, but with Chourio eventually expected to take over that spot, does Milwaukee trade one of their current outfielders, or will someone like Tyrone Taylor, Mitchell, or Wiemer have to switch positions?
The other component is that Chourio is only 19 years of age and has more than tripled the value of prospects who signed a deal like this before making their MLB debuts.
The Milwaukee Brewers are slowly the Atlanta Braves model, where they are getting cost-controlled homegrown talent. With the signing of Chourio. Hopefully, Milwaukee can build a sustainable winner.

The obvious next move is to trade Weimer.
He’ll never hit in the league.
