The Milwaukee Brewers had to get creative against the Chicago Cubs on Friday afternoon. In order to complete a comeback win the Brew Crew stole four bases during the eighth inning. They ended up scoring all three of their runs that inning and winning by a score of 3-1.
Milwaukee Brewers steal four bases in one inning against the Chicago Cubs.
With one out in the eighth inning acting manager Rickie Weeks summoned Jackson Chourio to pinch hit against a left-handed pitcher for Sal Frelick. He did this knowing that Craig Counsell would counter with a righty. Counsell did just that and he brought in Adbert Alzolay from the bullpen to face Chourio.
Chourio ended up working a full count, fouled off a pair of pitches, and reached via an infield single. He then stole second and scored the game tying run off a William Contreras base hit. From there the Brewers ran wild.
Contreras stole second and later scored on a Willy Adames single. With two outs in the inning Adames then swiped second base and scored on a Jake Bauers hit. Lastly Bauers stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, but was left stranded there as the inning ended.
The last time the Milwaukee Brewers stole four bases in an inning was during the 2016 season.
Per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the last time the Brewers stole four bases in an inning was August 14, 2016. That was a game against the Cincinnati Reds where Keon Broxton stole second and third base, Orlando Arcia swiped second base, and Chris Carter got into the action with a steal as well. All four stolen bases were off the same pitcher/catcher combination of Cody Reed and Ramón Cabrera,
Being a base stealing team is an identity of the 2024 Milwaukee Brewers.
Outside of this five stolen base game that featured four in one inning the Brewers have been running wild all season long. They currently have 45 stolen bases on the year. This is good enough for the third most in the league trailing only the Washington Nationals (53) and Cincinnati Reds (55).
