The Milwaukee Brewers are 59-43 with a six-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central Division. A 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday night not only clinched yet another series win for the Brewers, but it also clinched the season-series win over the team that lured away former manager Craig Counsell.
Astonishingly, the Brewers have been able to maintain a high level of play all season long despite constant obstacles. The youth of their roster has led to some frustrating losses as many of their regulars, such as phenom Jackson Chourio, have had a learning curve in their first season as Major League players. Injuries, especially to the starting rotation, has also proved to be a challenge the Brewers have had to meet and overcome all season long.
Milwaukee Brewers Left Fielder Christian Yelich Went on the Injured List Again
Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich is having his best season since he got hurt in 2019. After hitting just .254/.362/.407 with an average of 14 home runs, 52 RBI, and 15 stolen bases per season from 2020-2023, the 2018 National League MVP found his swing again.
The 2018 and 2019 NL batting champion is once again leading the league in batting average, slashing .315/.406/.504 with 11 home runs, 42 RBI, and 21 stolen bases.
Yelich was the National League’s leading All-Star vote getter amongst outfielders and started the Mid-Summer Classic in Arlington.
Unfortunately, he is not currently able to play for Milwaukee at the moment. During the Brewers’ 1-0 win over Chicago on Tuesday night, Yelich was replaced by a pinch-hitter. Yesterday, it was announced that he was going on the injured list with the back injury that has lingered for years and put him on the IL earlier this season, too.
Speaking to reporters about his options, Yelich did not sound optimistic that he would be back any time soon.
Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Christian Yelich Is Going to Rest and Rehab His Back
On Thursday afternoon, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported on X (formerly Twitter) that Yelich is going to try to rest and rehab his back. Up until that report, there was thought that he might have season-ending back surgery:
Christian Yelich intends to rest and rehab his back rather than undergo surgery that would have ended his season, a source tells @TheAthletic. Offseason surgery is a strong possibility, the source says.

There is no timetable yet for when Yelich would be able to return to the team this season. There also is not any indication of how long he would need to recover from an offseason procedure.
Yelich’s decision, though, points to the fact that he believes the Brewers have something special this year and that he wants to be a part of it. Hopefully he can rehab quickly and help the team get back to the postseason and, perhaps, into the World Series for the first time since 1982.
