The Milwaukee Brewers have been quite busy of late this offseason. Over the past couple of weeks, the Brewers have turned heads with deals that saw them acquire first baseman Rhys Hoskins, part ways with former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes, and ink pitcher Jakob Junis. Could there be more surprising moves up the sleeve of Milwaukee?
Peter Brody of Pinstripe Alley floated the idea that the New York Yankees could be an ideal destination for Milwaukee Brewers closer Devin Williams, with Milwaukee being speculated as having a “mini selloff.”
The Brewers have a pair of impact players close to free agency — shortstop Willy Adames and closer Devin Williams — who they could look to deal to restock a middling farm system with upper-level talent behind uber-prospect Jackson Chourio, and Williams is the caliber of reliever who could vault the Yankees’ bullpen to the top of the heap around the league.
Burnes’s departure from the Brewers has opened up plenty of speculations that Milwaukee’s not yet done in dealing players away in the offseason, even though spring training is already just around the corner.
Will The Milwaukee Brewers Trade Devin Williams?
Should the Milwaukee Brewers try to dangle Williams as trade bait, there shouldn’t be a shortage of teams knocking at their door. Williams has been an All-Star in each of the last two seasons. Over that stretch, he has accumulated 51 saves with a 1.73 ERA, 2.33 FIP, and 241 ERA+. He signed a one-year deal with the Brewers for the 2025 season last January that eliminates his last arbitration-eligible year.
