The Milwaukee Brewers have announced a roster move in which reliever Jake Cousins is no longer with the team. Rather he has been claimed off of waivers by the Houston Astros. Adam McCalvy announced this first on Twitter.

Brewers roster move: RHP Jake Cousins claimed off waivers by Houston.

In 2021 Jake Cousins broke out with the Milwaukee Brewers. That season he pitched 30 innings, had a 2.70 ERA, and recorded seven holds. His nasty fastball/slider combination resulted in 44 strikeouts and a .158 batting average against.
Entering the 2022 season there was a lot of optimism that he would be worked into a high leverage reliever role. Unfortunately he struggled with command and wild pitches early on and eventually ended up missing a vast majority of the season with an elbow injury.
This year he has thrown just 9.1 major league innings, has allowed five earned runs, and has walked 10 batters. He did not have a role in the Brewers bullpen and was in the minor leagues. Without any real indication of a designation for assignment or release he was suddenly claimed off of waivers by the Houston Astros and added to their 40-man roster.
There is a lot of potential with Jake Cousins. Perhaps a change of scenery will help resurrect his major league career.
