Milwaukee Brewers: Top 30 Prospect Attempting To Power His Way Onto Big League Roster

Milwaukee Brewers top 30 prospect Wes Clarke is having a phenomenal spring.  The teams 25th ranked prospect recently slugged his fourth home run of the season.  This not only leads the team but ties him for the most in the league with Andy Ibanez of the Detroit Tigers.

Wes Clarke hit his fourth home run of spring training.

24 year old Wes Clarke has been raking so far in spring training.  Across nine games and 17 at-bats he has four home runs and seven runs batted in.  Outside of the home run ball he has one other base hit that went for single.

    We weren’t far off 🤷‍♂️

Is Wes Clarke a dark horse candidate to make the Milwaukee Brewers opening day roster?

At the plate power is Wes Clarke’s calling card.  This alone may be enough to someday get him to the big leagues, but defensively he is currently blocked from the big league roster.  The first baseman is unlikely to beat out the likes of Rhys Hoskins and Jake Bauers.  Secondarily he operates as a catcher, but with William Contreras, Gary Sanchez, and Eric Haase all on the 40-man roster there is no clear path for him to the big leagues as a catcher.

Where might Wes Clarke start the 2024 season?

In 2023 Wes Clarke spent the entire season with the Biloxi Shuckers in Double-A.  A promotion to Triple-A is likely in his future.  This will give him the opportunity to see higher quality pitching more consistently and to potentially prove that he is deserving of a spot on the Brewers big league roster.
