The Milwaukee Brewers have dropped their last two games as they lost on Labor Day to the Pittsburgh Pirates and they dropped the series finale to the Philadelphia Phillies. In both games they were defeated by scores of 4-2. The offense could not break through with any timely hits. This is evidenced by the fact that they are 1-12 with runners in scoring position during those games. In this article we will take a further look at their loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates game recap from Monday, September 4.
The Brewers put up their two runs during the second inning of Monday’s contest and they managed to score both runs without the courtesy of a hit. To begin the second frame Pirates pitcher Luis Oritz walked the first two Milwaukee batters and then hit Mark Canha with a pitch to load the bases with no outs. From there SAC Fly RBI’s from Victor Caratini and Brice Turang both plated runs.
After this inning the Brewers put runners on base but double play balls in the fourth and sixth innings killed their rallies. Their one hit with a runner in scoring position in this game came during the fourth inning. Victor Caratini was on second base when Andrew Monasterio hit a liner right up the middle. Due to where the ball was hit Caratini had to initially freeze to make sure the ball got through the infield and as a result he did not score on the play.
On the mound the Pirates had consecutive innings of two runs scored that came during the fourth and fifth innings. All their runs were scored off of Corbin Burnes in which Jack Suwinski and Ke’Bryan hayes had home runs.
