Milwaukee Brewers rookie Blake Perkins collected his first career walk-off hit on Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. His clutch hit came in the 10th inning and was off former Brewers reliever Angel Perdomo.
Blake Perkins first career walk-off ignites Milwaukee Brewers to a thrilling victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
To set up Blake Perkins big hit, let’s take a step back and reflect on how the Brewers got into that position. In this game they had to come from behind late for they trailed by a score of 2-1 entering the ninth inning. David Bednar, the Pirates All-Star closing pitcher, was on the hill in the ninth.
To lead off the ninth inning Carlos Santana singled. Blake Perkins then entered the game as a pinch runner. The next batter was Willy Adames. He flied out to right field but Perkins tagged up from first base and got into scoring position. Perkins then advanced to third base on a wild pitch and was brought home by a clutch Sal Frelick game tying RBI single.

In the 10th inning Devin Williams pitched a scoreless frame to keep the game tied at two runs a piece. During the bottom of the frame Brian Anderson recorded the first out via a strikeout. Mark Canha was then intentionally walked, Christian Yelich grounded out, and then William Contreras was intentionally walked to load the bases and bring up Blake Perkins.
On the fourth pitch of the sequence between Perkins and Perdomo he laced a single up the middle to give Milwaukee a walk-off victory. This was the Brewers first victory in 48 chances when trailing after the eighth inning and it could not have come at a better time.
