The Milwaukee Brewers have made one move throughout MLB trade deadline week and reports are indicating that they are looking to add another bat. If/when a deal does go down it’s possible that they might have to part ways with a top prospect or two. Here we will take a look at who one MLB Insider listed as the team’s biggest trade chip.
Shortstop Eric Brown Jr was listed as the Milwaukee Brewers biggest trade chip.
Per Mark Feinsand the Brewers first round selection in the 2022 draft is their biggest trade chip. He indicates that because prospects ranked above him are likely untouchable as the primary reason in which Brown Jr may be appealing to teams.
Jackson Chourio, Jacob Misiorowski, Jeferson Quero and Tyler Black – Milwaukee’s top four prospects – are seemingly untouchable, leaving the 22-year-old Brown Jr. as their most likely trade chip to use this week. Brown Jr., a first-round pick last year and the Brewers’ No. 6 prospect, is a speedster with an unorthodox swing and knack for getting on base.
Currently the 22 year old shortstop is on the injured list as he sustained a scapula fracture in early July. Prior to his injury he was playing in A-Ball and had a .266/.366/.348 slash line. Power is not his game but getting on base and stealing bases is as he had 27 stolen bases in 48 games played.
With his unique combination of contact and speed a team could easily be drawn to the appeal of Eric Brown Jr. He was an established college bat selected out of Coastal Carolina and should progress through the minor league quickly. It will be interesting to see if Milwaukee uses him in a trade or not.
