The Milwaukee Brewers did a great job early on in the month of September of building a comfortable lead in the National League Central division. They ended up clinching a post season berth over the weekend in Miami but their magic number to win the division remained at one entering play on Tuesday evening. Despite Milwaukee losing to the St. Louis Cardinals a Chicago Cubs loss ended up handing the Brewers the division title.
For Chicago the loss was a brutal one. They had a six run lead and ended up losing by a score of 7-6. A very bad error from outfielder Seiya Suzuki is how the Atlanta Braves ended up taking the lead.

Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs fans react to brutal error that handed the Brew Crew the 2023 National League Central division title.
That Seiya Suzuki fielding gaffe in the bottom of the eighth tonight was the closest thing the Cubs have had to Brant Brown dropping the fly ball in Milwaukee in 1998.
Just a ghastly, unfortunate misplay that directly led to the opponent winning the game.

There are a ton of moments to point to this season, but this one feels like the dagger, and it was so so so bad. Sports are the worst. Seiya Suzuki and Brant Brown go down in history together.

Good lord, I’ll tell you one thing we’re not going to do: we’re not going to turn one terrible play into the entirety of Seiya Suzuki’s season. He made a physical error. It was costly as hell, and it shouldn’t have happened. But it does sometimes.
