The New York Yankees went to the World Series last season and lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Yankees and other teams will need help in the bullpen this offseason. It will be interesting to see if the Milwaukee Brewers trade closer Devin Williams at some point with one year remaining on his contract.
Williams is one of the biggest names on the trade market for the Brewers this offseason. A trade may not be the only move that Milwaukee makes this offseason.
Fansided Writer Eric Treuden Thinks That the New York Yankees Could Be In Play For Devin Williams This Offseason
One team that will need bullpen help this MLB offseason is the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies bullpen showed weakness in the NLDS series loss against the New York Mets. There is no doubt that Philadelphia will pursue help in the bullpen this offseason. Other teams will need bullpen help this offseason.
One of the teams reviewingthebrew.com writer Eric Treuden thinks that Williams could be traded to this offseason is the New York Yankees. He said:
“The other club that made it all the way to the World Series this year is another one without a proven closer at the back-end of their ‘pen. Journeyman Luke Weaver became the Yankees’ closer in the postseason and could conceivably take that role back come 2025, but he may be better suited as a multi-inning role-player that can bounce around between assignments in the bullpen.
Like the Dodgers, the Yankees easily have the pieces needed to land someone like Williams. If they have interest, the Brewers would have very little difficulty looking through their farm system and finding pieces that catch their eye.”
It would be interesting to see if the Yankees were to move Weaver out of the closer role and put Williams into the closer role if they traded for him. New York general manager Brian Cashman is no stranger to trading prospects for star baseball players to try and win a championship.
2024 Stats
A season ago with the Milwaukee Brewers, he pitched in 22 games. Williams pitched in 21.2 innings and gave up 10 hits and three runs. He walked 11 batters and struck out 38 batters. His WHIP last season was 0.97.
Devin Williams also recorded 14 saves last season with the Brewers. If Milwaukee is going to trade him, the Yankees are going to need to give up some decent prospects for him.
