The Milwaukee Brewers are currently in search of a new manager for the first time since 2015. Their former manager, Craig Counsell, has accepted a position with the division rival Chicago Cubs. As a result GM Matt Arnold and company are busy exploring who might become the 20th manager of the organization.
Following the news of Craig Counsell’s departure Matt Arnold spoke with the media for the first time. During this session with the press he revealed the name of one candidate who is in very real consideration for the Brewers managerial opening.
Current Milwaukee Brewers bench coach Pat Murphy is in very real consideration for the Crews managerial opening.
At the GM meeting Matt Arnold did not reveal a ton of information in regards to the Brewers managerial search, aside from the fact that bench coach Pat Murphy is in very real consideration. Reports indicated that Milwaukee met with him the day after news broke about Craig Counsell signing with the Cubs, but outside of him the Brewers have not revealed other candidates who have had confirmed interviews.
Also worth noting is the fact that if Pat Murphy does not get the managerial gig whomever is selected will have the opportunity to select their own bench coach. However Matt Arnold ensured that no matter what happens Pat Murphy will have a spot within the Brewers organization.
Pat Murphy is in “very real consideration” for the Brewers’ manager job, but if he doesn’t get the gig, the next manager will have an opportunity to choose his own bench coach.
And Arnold said if Pat Murphy isn’t either the next Brewers manager or that person’s choice for bench coach, he’ll have a place somewhere in the Brewers organization.

Outside of this news Matt Arnold declined to answer questions in regards to other candidates who have interviewed. He also would not disclose what type of manager he is looking for (previous MLB managerial experience vs. someone from player development, etc). A lot of candidates have been linked to the opening already so it will be interesting to see who Milwaukee announces as their next manager.
