The Milwaukee Brewers flipped some pretty good MLB players via trade from 2015 and beyond. This was when executive David Stearns took over and in quicker than expected fashion re-built the team into a playoff contender. One of the players he traded went to the Oakland Athletics, became one of the leagues biggest home run threats, and now is in the news for finding a passion outside of baseball.
Former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Khris Davis was traded to the Oakland Athletics prior to the start of the 2016 season.

Khris Davis, a seventh round draft selection by the Brewers in 2009, debuted in the big leagues in 2013. From 2013-2015 he hit 60 home runs with Milwaukee, but he wasn’t viewed as a strong defender. With no designated hitter spot in the National League and other notable players like Ryan Braun, Domingo Santana, and Keon Broxton on the team they traded him to the Athletics prior to the start of the 2016 season.
With the Oakland Athletics Khris Davis was one of the leagues biggest home run threats.

In exchange for Davis the Athletics gave up RHP Bubba Derby and catcher Jacob Nottingham. Davis ended up providing more than Oakland could have imagined as from 2016-2019 he mashed 156 home runs that included three straight seasons of 40+ home runs and 100 RBI’s. After the shortened 2020 season the Athletics traded Davis to the Texas Rangers for shortstop Elvis Andrus and catcher Aramis Garcia. He ended up being designated for assignment in 2021, briefly returned to Oakland that same year, and has not played in the big leagues since.
Khris Davis is now using his passion for cars to become an auto mechanic.

Life after playing baseball for Khris Davis has been about finding something else to do and master. Per Bob Nightengale at USA Today Davis is a car enthusiast but had no clue how to work on them. Using the mindset of “get paid for something you are passionate about” a 36 year old former professional athlete recently finished an auto mechanic class with more than a dozen kids nearly half his age and will be seeking out employment at dealerships and other auto shops.
“It was a challenge because I didn’t even know how to change a tire before going to school. I loved cars, but didn’t know what to expect. I knew I was going to be behind. I just dedicated myself to it.
I was like old guy trying to stay young and hang around. The other guys were 19-and-20-year-old kids who had been working on cars since they were 5. They weren’t even old enough to drink. But it was a lot of fun. It was comforting to learn about cars. It had that nostalgia feel to it because I really got into cars when I was like 13 and I saw Fast & Furious. That movie was epic.”
