The Milwaukee Brewers held their annual end of the year press conference on Tuesday in which members of the media met with Matt Arnold for what ended up being a 26 minute question and answer session. One topic discussed was the likelihood of four key players returning for the 2024 season.
Matt Arnold strongly suggests that Mark Canha, Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Willy Adames will return to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024.
Of this group of four players all have the ability to remain with the Brewers if management chooses to retain them. Mark Canha has a $11.5 MM club option ($2.00 MM buyout) whereas the rest are all in arbitration. According to MLB Trade Rumors Corbin Burnes is projected to earn a salary of $15.1 MM in 2024, Willy Adames $12.4 MM, and Brandon Woodruff $11.6MM.
During the press conference Matt Arnold said that Mark Canha put himself in a very good spot to have his option picked up. He produced more runs batted in during his two months with the Brewers than he did all season with the New York Mets. Additionally he came through with quite a few clutch hits.
Matt Arnold also indicated that he would “feel comfortable” with Corbin Burnes, Brandon Woodruff, and Willy Adames all returning in 2024 for their final season of team control. He went on to say that he does not anticipate trading away any of these three players.
It will be interesting to see what happens over the winter months. Speculations regarding trades of Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames are already gaining steam, but right now all indications are pointing towards these four players getting one more run at a World Series together.
